Class Reflection #7 Comsumer Identity ( 4/7)
Although being a consumer of great weight part of our daily lives, most tribe never acknowledge that they have an ‘identity as a consumer.’ I observe that consumption is a cut of expression in America today. What you buy and how you have being identifies you as an special. The choices you create as a consumer today reflects your individuality, your beliefs, and helps you squeeze out yourself. The entire marketing and advertising diligence help limit our self pressing out as consumers. Choosing to buy Abercrombie jeans depicts our pressing out as ‘rather cold yet stylish;’ whereas, buying Versace slacks would give out our expression as ‘elite and form conscious.’ The advertising habitual devotion to labor gives identity to the products, and when we buy a produce - we buy the identity that comes with the produce; in this way, as a consumer we press out ourselves.
The roots of consumer identity may have started with the Boston Tea combination. Rejecting British Tea was an squeezing out: it was expressing the exclusion of British agriculture and fortifying an identity of being “Americans.”
The universal of consumer identification is remarkable by the cultural modify for “fitness” rather than “reuse.” Reuse is still a cultural model in most third world countries such as Nepal and India. In these countries it is belonging to all to see shops that “patch up clothes,” peddlers that tend hitherward to your house to buy small part and specially ‘empty bottles,’ shops that amend everything from furniture to electronics for a little price, and raiment that are still handed down. In occurrence, people in Nepal provision empty bottles and bide one's time for the “scantling buyer.” As to one's person, my parents still take my old raiment and give them to their friends’ pl of child! I believe that this continues in countries because, dissimilar America, these countries are not as economically hardy and don’t have such a developed ‘consumer identity’ habit. Consumer identity was formed by ‘fertility,’ whereas, in most third nature countries dearth still prevails which foliage little alternative to support such a agriculture. In America, copiousness is a way of life and selection is integral to nation’s lives. I trust it is economic progression that has led to the culture of ‘suitableness.’ And this in turn round has helped race save duration, and made them more productive resulting in further progression. The need for progression influenced products resembling “Kotex” and many more, which have enabled tribe to do more with their time. Perhaps Kleenex, in the room of handkerchiefs, was an also of convenience due to the duration it saved on lavation! In America, duration has great importance and this is seen with the system of “every hour pay.” Most developing nations don’t have such a system.
