Fancy my delight when, after a week in Chicago with her male parent this past summer, my ten-year-old daughter returned with two fire-brand-new (and pretty darn a little cold) zipper-front sweatshirts from her aunt. My "tween" was expanding rapidly and last year's darling sweatshirts had been heaped in my resale bag for months. Charming, I said to myself. One less created being for me to buy this fall. Coin saved. And she actually likes them too, especially the velvety covered with a hood pink one. I sighed and leaned back in the lawn seat in my mind (at my abode on Easy Way) and said a still thanks to Aunt Ruby.

Ah, but naivete is my medial name.... Poorly a month into her fifth-rank year, a unquestioned word -- a expression with the sound and syllables and ableness of the name of an ancient sovereign -- had insinuated its way into my daughter's glossary. The word was Abercrombie, and it was arrival out of my daughter's cavity between the jaws at least ten times a day, along with detailed descriptions not only of diverse classmates' Abercrombie sweatshirts but also of the very shopping hop to the mall when The Abercrombie Sweatshirt (let's call it TAS for shortness) was bought by a special classmate's prodigious, generous female parent.

It went for weeks of a piece this -- the stories, the TAS sightings, the holy word approach from her mouth from the duration I dropped her off at academy until I tucked her in at darkness. Pitching analogous a smarmy salesman, I played up the "coolness" of her two new sweatshirts. When that didn't act, I went after her disposition to feel grieved for inanimate objects: "But what about your pinched new gray and rose-color sweatshirts?...." I contemplation I could do it. I thought I could slip past this one. But then the clinch, the thing that was too much for her to hold up: her best confidant got one.

"Alright," I lastly said, "we'll gaze at them online. But that doesn't medium I'm buying you one...."

The Abercrombie Sweatshirt arrived in about a week, and I must say, even though I paid $40...
